Lisa Chopp is a fine artist living and working in the North Houston town of Spring, Texas. She specializes in portraits of people and pets, using both oil paints and pencil drawing as her favorite mediums. More recently she has had the desire to paint the stories of Jesus and the Kingdom of God.
Faith, Hope, and Love are important factors in Lisa's work. Lisa's faith has led her to understand that she was created to be an artist. She earned her Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree (BFA) from Ursuline College, in Cleveland, Ohio 1981, where she studied under master artist Richard Treaster, who also taught at the Cleveland Institute of Art. It was during this formative period that Lisa developed her skills in drawing, watercolor and oil painting. However, sadly unable to secure her dream job in art , she gave up and allowed that talent to go dormant for over 30 yrs.
After a move to Dallas, Tx. to raise a family and then moving to Houston, Tx., Lisa felt the prayerful prompting that it was time to again pursue artwork. She wondered if all was lost and if she still had skill left. With encouragement from her Mother and close friends, she began by joining the Woodlands Art League and meeting other artists. She has been mentored by master artist Cheng Lian, where she has relearned many things in oil painting and drawing. Lisa's hope is to continue to develop her painting and drawing skills; bringing them to yet another level.
From Lisa:
'My story of painting really started back in my youth, as I found I had a talent for art. I used to draw and paint all the time. While at College, I worked to develop more of my artistry and my spiritual life, but really, my adult spiritual life has led me into ministry through several churches here in Texas where my husband and I have been leaders or elders/pastors. I have always had a love of prayer, even as a young girl, so it seems at this point in my life God has allowed the 2 avenues to be combined; that is my love for Him expressed in prayer and in painting!
Much of my time in Texas has been spent in healing prayer ministry, specifically inner heart healing, and now I love that this overflows into my art work. I have had people contact me that they have been greatly moved by just looking at one of my paintings! I love that God can bless people in that way! (The disciples, especially Peter and Paul, could bring healing through the gift of touch; even their clothes or handkerchiefs like Jesus did.) That is what I hope to bring to all of God's children as well; some sort of healing and blessing to their lives and hearts. My own heart is blessed as well.'
I am blessed by God with the love and support of my family, who continue to encourage me to keep my heart open to sharing art. If I can create something of value that will be a lasting symbol of love, then my work has true meaning.'
